"NO WIND TURBINE IN SOPLEY!"
Dan and me went on a cycle the other week through the buzzing metropolis that is Sopley and saw several Badly Printed signs "NO TURBINE!" in various locations around the lanes. They had been implemented to exclaim the villages anger at a person who merely wanted to do the right thing. WHY OH WHY?! Is sopley denying itself a chance of environmental development, WHY is it discarding a valuable opportunity to improve its efficiency?
I will tell you why, change doesnt happen in Sopley, its properties are carved in local stone and cannot be rewritten, people like familiarity, they like knowing that all is silent and unchanged. They are not interested in development, they see any development as a regression, as all is well.
But it doesn't matter because its Doris at number 47 who is going to lose out when electricity bills rocket. She won't be able to religiously watch countdown on her 1983 Panasonic television set bought from Jarvis Radio. She'll learn her lesson, not to be engulfed by the localness.
I had a thought as i rode past the fourth sign...
I could pull out all the signs and replace them with toy pinwheels,
That would rock Doris's chair a bit.
Give her something to tell the committee!
